MARTHA JEFFERSON RANDOLPH

MARTHA JEFFERSON RANDOLPH
 daughter of Thomas Jefferson 1801-1809

When Jefferson became President in 1801, he had been a widower for nineteen years. Frequent pregnancies had weakened his wife, Martha Wayles Skelton, and she died in 1781.

It was his daughter, Martha "Patsy," who appeared as the lady for the President's house and gave birth to a son named for James Madison. James was the first child born in the White House
